How The Times Herald-Record supports the fund

The volunteers guided by Director Marsi Clark and the 16-member board of directors keep this fund vibrant and successful.

But People for People's ability to reach a wide audience is the work of the fund's sponsor, the Times Herald-Record. The newspaper uses its resources to tell the story of the fund, the work it does and the ways it enriches the quality of life in the region. And, of course, it uses those same resources to support fundraising.

The Times Herald-Record's support of People for People ensures that overhead is kept at a bare minimum. The newspaper provides office space and supplies so that the fund's volunteers can do their work. That means virtually every penny donated goes to help a local family or individual.

Far from the days when the fund first launched in 1985, the newspaper now has a number of different news and information products to serve its vast three-county area - Orange, Ulster and Sullivan counties. Its website, recordonline.com, provides news coverage around the clock and has a wide audience beyond the Record's daily print product.

The newspaper also publishes two full-color bi-monthly lifestyle magazines - Orange and Ulster magazines. And it publishes the weekly Port Jervis Gazette.

These and other products provide vehicles for spreading the word about the good work People for People does for the region.

"It is a durable, well respected fund," said Joe Vanderhoof, publisher. "Through the years - in good and bad economies - neighbors help neighbors get through a tough passage and back on their feet. Its success is all about the caring nature of the communities we serve."

In the spring of 2013, the newsroom created a new digital identity for the fund to extend its reach across an even wider audience. That means more individuals and families in need can reach out to their neighbors for help.
