People for People is a not-for-profit, 501(c) (3) corporation organized under the laws of the State of New York. Its purpose is to provide temporary assistance to residents with ties to the Times Herald-Record's readership area, which covers Orange, Sullivan and Ulster counties, N.Y., and parts of Pike County, Pa. The People for People Fund was founded in 1985 by the Times Herald-Record and the Junior League of Orange County as a means of helping people in our communities help each other. Most operating costs, such as rent, utilities and office supplies, are paid for by the Times Herald-Record.
The fund is staffed by trained volunteers and supervised by a paid part-time executive director. Since its first campaign in 1985, the Times Herald-Record's People for People Fund has distributed more than $4.4 million through the year 2014. The fund is audited annually by an independent firm of certified public accountants.
